The Valentano Chickpea from the Straight Furrow owes its name to a traditional local peasant event, "The Straight Furrow Pulling," which takes place every August 14th on the plain below the town. The success of this operation—the straight furrow being more or less straight—is a good omen for the agricultural year and the following year's harvest.
